888poker ambassador Dominik Nitsche who took the third place in the 2016 edition of Super XL Series is gearing up for the 2017 edition of the tournament that will begin Jan. 19 and run until Jan 31. The 2016 XL Series was the biggest tournament that Nitsche had won in his career and brought him around $206,000 in prize money.
This year’s series has a number of tournaments with exciting prize pools on offer, with the headline event being the $1,500,000 Super XL Main Event. The series has a guaranteed prize pool of $5 million and several qualifiers are ongoing on the 888poker site.
Speaking ahead of the tournament Nitsche has said that he was excited to participate in the upcoming Main Event of the XL Series calling it one of the best tournaments of the year.
This year, he would be playing from Australia as he would be there to participate in the Aussie Millions tournament.
Nitsche is on Twitch and had streamed his win last year. It was the first time that he had streamed a live game in which all his cards and decisions were exposed. While that felt a little different, he said that it was an amazing feeling to have people watch and support him. He stated that streaming on Twitch didn’t affect his strategy during play although he chose not to reveal finer details of his moves. Nitsche added that grinding for 14 hours straight was tough, but having people watch him live helped him focus. This year however he has said that he is not sure if he would be streaming his game as it depends on his performance in the Aussie Millions.
Nitsche urged poker fans to participate in the XL series, pointing out that it offered lucrative prizes. In a statement, Nitsche said,
Big money for very reasonable buy-ins. Tournament poker really doesn't get much better. The XL Series has a lot of satellites too so there really is no reason not to play if you like tournament poker. There are also a few PLO tournaments. Those are very fun too!
His philosophy for poker tournaments is to focus on the things that are within one’s control and let results happen on their own. The poker pro believes that one of his biggest advantages is his ability to make better decisions at the poker table when compared to the other players.
