The World Poker Tour (WPT) recently announced that it is partnering with two major brands, BT Sport and 888poker in order to strengthen its European presence.

After signing a deal with one of the UK’s largest providers of televised sports content, poker fans in the UK and Ireland can now watch a selection of WPT events, which will kick off with Season XV of the US-based tournament, highlighting Mike Sexton’s journey to his first ever WPT title, as well as Sam Panzica’s back-to-back victory.

The broadcast deal will give British and Irish poker fans a new way to enjoy poker from the comfort of their own homes, and will enable WPT to reach new demographics. Richard Sarris, WPT’s manager of content distribution, said their partnership with BT Sport will have a vital contribution to WPT’s ongoing efforts to expand on a global scale.

888poker Partnership

888poker will co-sponsor the WPTDeepStacks tournament in Europe. The WPT and 888poker reached a three-year deal which is expected to boost the number of European events as well as provide a fresh selection of online qualifiers.

The WPT confirmed the new deal with 888poker earlier this week which will result in two additional stops to this year’s WPTDeepStacks Europe tour. The two stops will be in Malta and Portugal.

Growth Continues

The link up with two major European brands is part of WPT’s plans to continue grow and strengthen its presence across the world. Last month, the WPT hosted its first ever tournament in Russia which turned out to be a hugely successful début which was positively welcomed by local fans.

The WPT is also among the first major operators to enter Asia, hosting events in Japan, Vietnam, Korea and India during 2018. The global poker market is extremely competitive and the WPT knows that it has to innovative in order to continue to be a top brand in global poker.

The WPT has done this by exploring new frontiers and entering new markets. The WPT forged a partnership with blockchain sportsbook FansUnite in October 2018. By joining forces with non-poker companies, the WPT is attracting a new target audience that will strengthen its presence in different markets. The expansion will also serve as a big boost for poker as the game gets introduced to more people all over the globe.
