Ionut VoineaSummary:

  • Voinea admitted he just got lucky when he won the EAPT Bucharest Main Event for €36,000
  • The tournament attracted 486 entries to surpass its €200K guarantee
  • The top four finishers were each awarded a €5K package to the EAPT Grand Final in Cyprus

The Eurasian Poker Tour (EAPT) re-launched this summer with its latest stop held in Bucharest from November 3-12.

The series concluded over the weekend with the crowning of the Main Event winner, Romanian player Ionut Voinea.

Voinea left the 888poker Room €36,000 richer after taking down the EAPT Bucharest Main Event, outclassing 485 opponents. Reacting to his victory, the Romanian admitted that winning the game had nothing to do with his skills as he relied purely on luck.

Voinea’s Journey to EAPT Main Event Victory

Voinea entered Day 2 of the EAPT Bucharest Main Event as the chip leader but he admitted he was “card dead” throughout the day, with his chipstack only improving to 1,045,000 from 826,000 at the end of Day 1.

Nevertheless, he managed to advance to Day 3 and ultimately reached the final table. Things began to go in Voinea’s favor when he finished off two opponents and then scored a huge double-up against eventual third-place finisher Gheorghe Butuc during three-handed play. At that point, the Romanian poker pro climbed to the top, securing over half of the chips in play. He never looked back from there, dispatching his heads-up opponent via another double-up.

Voinea credits his recent success to luck, saying he only did what he needed to do, put the chips in, and fortunately they came back to him “with interest”.

Following his EAPT Bucharest Main Event victory, Voinea is looking forward to winning bigger events, with his sights set on the WPT World Championship at Wynn Las Vegas this December.

The other players who made it to the EAPT Bucharest Main Event final table were Sebastian Ionita (2nd, €24,705), Gheorghe Butuc (3rd, €17,200), Cristian Puscas (4th, €12,750), Alexandru Mitracu (5th, €9,300), Cristian Rajala (6th, €7,100), Vlad Murgulet (7th, €5,700), Cristian Sandu (8th, €4,650), and Julian Dragan (9th, €3,785).

Top 4 Finishers Earn €5,000 Package to EAPT Grand Final in Cyprus

Apart from his €36,000 first-place prize, Voinea also won a package worth €5,000 to the EAPT Grand Final in Cyprus which will take place in 2024. A similar prize was also awarded to Ionita, Butuc, and Puscas.
