After she took her time testing the waters around with different online poker rooms, chess icon Alexandra Botez seems to have finally found her perfect match.

GGPoker has announced Alexandra will be their new ambassador. The announcement was made with the help of a video where the talented American-Canadian with Romanian heritage was joined by fellow Canadian Daniel “Kid Poker” Negreanu who also shared the same heritage.

Papa Botez Introduced Alexandra to Poker

The duo reunited in Las Vegas where they engaged in an interesting heads-up duel.

Alexandra Botez, who was patched by PokerStars in the Mystery Cash Challenge and also by 888poker during the 2023 WSOP Main Event, shared her poker beginnings and discussed a series of hot topics that have been in the poker news lately.

Alexandra explained that it was her father, nicknamed “Papa Botez“, who originally taught her how to play poker at a young age.

Negreanu was Papa Botez’s preferred poker player given the heritage they share.

Alexandra also shared that she has been receiving poker coaching from Landon Tice and Chance Kornuth, which she described as “a GTO guy and a live tell guy” and the “perfect combo“.

Tournaments Are “Less Gambly”

When asked if she prefers cash games or poker tournaments, Alexandra opted for the latter as they feel “less gambly” while also reminding her more of her passion for chess.

Tournaments are the closest thing I’ve found to chess.

she added while explaining that while she continues to enjoy chess,

it’s less fun when you’re not a beginner, so I feel I get to be a beginner again.

The new ambassador also confirmed that she will be attending the 2024 World Series of Poker and that she was eager for a full schedule of events.

Negreanu also picked Alexandra’s brain regarding the freshest controversies in the industry or surrounding GGPoker, including the banning of Moneytaker69, the player who was found with close to $30,000 in unfair winnings and the introduction of women-only poker tournaments and masks at the table.
