888poker To Sponsor 2017 Swedish Poker Championship Series

The Swedish Poker-SM Online Championship Series (PSMO) which is a grassroots poker event that takes place every year will be sponsored by 888poker, the world’s second largest online poker site. This is the second consecutive year that 888poker is sponsoring the PSMO. Set to be held between May 1 and May 7, the 2017 PSMO will be offering six tournaments across a range of buy-ins for poker fans. The headline event will be the $165 PSMO Main Event and is expected to attract 250 or more entries. 888poker is offering daily $11 PSMO satellites which gives players a chance to try their luck in landing an entry ticket.

In the 2016 edition, player Blaser75 took the top spot at the PSMO Main Event beating a field of 144 entrants, taking home winnings of $4,968 in the process. A number of well-known Swedish poker stars who are regulars with 888poker are expected to join this year’s battle.

In a statement, Mauritz Altikardes, CEO of Poker Event Svenska said

We expect the Main Event to host 250-300 players. I believe that familiar 888 regulars such as WSOP bracelet winner Peter Eichardt, Jerry ‘perrymejsen’ Ödeen, former PSML ME winner Emma Wikberg, as well as the latest PSML Main Event winner, Pontus Magnusson, and some of the old-school names, will take a shot at becoming the next Swedish Poker Champion.

888poker ambassador and Swedish pro Sofia Lövgren is a strong contender for the championship. Lövgren noted that although Swedes are polite and calm generally, in pokerthey are aggressive and entertaining. She urged all Swedes to join the event regardless of their skill level.

The Series kicks off with a $22 PSMO Low Roller suitable for those looking for budget plays. Also being held on the first day is the PSMO Freeroll. Remaining events scheduled are the: $55 PSMO PLO 6-Max, PSMO Deep Stack and PSMO PLO8. Satellites will be held at the venue for a few of these events.

Highlighting that the Poker Federation has been working closely with clubs at all levels, Altikardes said that he was hoping that results of that would be visible in the Series. He also applauded 888poker for being interested in encouraging poker at the grassroots level. The partnership between the two is an outcome 888poker having signed a two-year deal with Svenska Poker förbunde also known as the Swedish Poker Federation in 2016. This is one of the many partnerships 888poker has entered into in the past 12 months. Other notable partnership deals are with the World Series of Poker (WSOP) and Stratford UK, Aspers.
