The 2023 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event has turned out to be a massive success drawing in over 10,043 registrations.

The previous Main Event registration record stood at 8,773 registrations and the 2023 edition was the first time that the WSOP Main Event saw a 5 figure registration that saw the eventual prize pool go up to $93,399,900.

The Main Event saw poker players from all over the world make their way to the Horseshoe & Paris Las Vegas. Apart from poker players, a number of celebrities who enjoy the game usually make their way to take part in the $10,000 WSOP Main Event.

Some of them came in disguise in order to keep their identity confidential like soccer star Sergio Agüero while others showed up with flash and bang like TV presenter Guy Fieri.

Sergio Agüero Has A Great Time, Wants To Play Next Main Event

Argentine soccer star Sergio Agüero who used to also play for Manchester City retired from professional soccer in 2021 after he was diagnosed with cardiac arrhythmia. Agüero has always liked playing poker and decided to show up at the 2023 WSOP Main Event to see if he could beat the competition and take home the first place prize of $12.1 million.

Agüero entered the Main Event on Day 1C and he had a great first day finishing with a stack of 87,000 chips. He also had a reasonably good second day given that he is not a professional player and finally ended up losing his stack and being eliminated on the 3rd day.

Agüero said that he enjoyed his experienced at the WSOP Main Event and promised to be back to play the 2024 WSOP Main Event.

Ryan Garcia and Guy Fieri Also Show Up

US poker boxing fans would have recognised Ryan Garcia at the Main Event as he had a good run. The professional boxer knows how to roll with the punches and to not give up. He did well for himself and made it to Day 4 with a pretty good stack with just over 1,500 players remaining.

Also in attendance was TV host and restaurateur Guy Fieri who unveiled the 2023 WSOP Main Event bracelet!
