PokerStars Takes Players Into Latest Offering ‘Virtual Reality’

Last Updated on September 21, 2018 Author:Adrian Sterne

PokerStars VRPokerStars is the biggest online poker website in the world and a market leader in just about every jurisdiction that it has online operations.

The online poker giant has stayed ahead of the competition because the company constantly innovates and comes out with new offerings that keep their players coming back for more.

PokerStars is now set to offer their most ambitious feature to date with PokerStars VR. PokerStars VR will give players a very realistic live poker experience in which they will be able to handle poker chips, hold cards, pick up tells from their opponents, and chat with other players at the table. There will also be plenty of other interactive props.

One of the main things that separate VR from other entertainment is that players become completely immersed in another world.

Manuel Bevand, who is on the PokerStars Innovation team, says that virtual reality is the ideal way of combining live and online poker and that is the reason that they chose to do this. Live poker gives players the opportunity to read other players and socialize with them.

Online poker is a bit different although the strategy and the mathematics are the same.

Jaime Staples Gives It Thumbs Up

Twitch streamer and PokerStars pro Jaime Staples tried it out and he was quite impressed referring to the experience as very cool. There are loads of items programmed into the platform such as guns that let you shoot things off of the counter and there are plenty of ways to tease your opponents.

If you accidentally bump up against a bottle then it will fall over and the things that you can throw around can be picked up by others. There is so much going on around you that you almost forget that you are playing poker.

Only Available In Play Money Platform

Introducing a project of such magnitude comes with a lot of challenges and PokerStars has done a lot to address them. Firstly, PokerStars VR will initially be launched as a play money game. Real-money PokerStars VR won’t be available any time soon. PokerStars wants to develop the platform and respond to feedback before they even consider offering a real-money version.

PokerStars VR even has an in-game camera which enables users to stream their experience. This intrigues Jaime Staples who is a very popular Twitch streamer. He said that PokerStars VR is ideal for Twitch and that the audience will really enjoy it.

Players can immerse themselves into Macau 2050, The Macau Suite, The Showdown Saloon, Monte Carlo Yacht or The Void and there will be more settings available in the future.
