PTUnibet Poker Ambassador Daiva Byrne Calls For More Ladies Events
Lithuanian poker pro and Unibet Poker Ambassador Daiva Byrne visited Australia for the first time this year. Her mission was to take part in the 2018 Aussie Millions and play the A$10,600 Main Event.
Her trip down under has been eventful to say the least as the female poker pro has used her time to enjoy the country, the people and take part in some exciting poker action as the Crown Melbourne casino.
She did not do very well at the Main Event and was eliminated on Day1. While she admits to enjoying her trip to Australia, one thing that she found missing was the lack of female poker pros at the 2018 Aussie Millions. Byrne has been working hard to promote women’s poker in the live circuit ever since she has partnered with Unibet Poker.
Right now, she runs a Facebook group called Ladies at Unibet Poker, where she encourages women who are into poker or want to start playing poker to come together and build an inclusive ladies poker community. The online poker group was established just 6 months ago and has turned out to be very popular with female poker players. Byrne’s online group has already more than 1,100 members.
Apart from free-flowing discussions on all things related to ladies poker, Byrne holds weekly freerolls and organizes meet-ups during live poker tournaments. The Unibet ambassador has called on the organizers of the Aussie Millions to launch a special ladies event at the 2019
edition.
The World Series of Poker and Unibet Open tournaments are some of the top poker tournaments which currently include ladies only events in their line-up—and Byrne hopes that the next Aussie Millions can do the same thing. Contrary to the opinion of others that ladies events are not the way to encourage more women to play poker, because it essentially separates the ladies from the rest of the players, Byrne thinks it helps to encourage more anxious and conservative women to start feeling confident about their plays.
In a statement, Byrne said,
I always encourage tours to have ladies events. With these freerolls and running more ladies only events, it means that women can practice and feel more comfortable. It’s also as simple as meeting more people and chatting, then going with these people they’ve met to live tournaments
Apart from Byrne, only one other notable female poker player was seen at the 2018 Aussie Millions: Australian Heidi May, who was the 2017 WSOP Ladies Event champion. Like Byrne, May busted before making it to Day 2 of the Main Event.
