Horseshoe Las Vegas is inviting poker fans across the globe to join it in celebrating the life of the late “Godfather of Poker”, Doyle Brunson, on July 2. Several prominent poker pros will gather together on that day to honor and cherish the legacy of one of the greatest poker legends of all time. The memorial will take place at the Jubilee Theater near the Horseshoe poker room.
Brunson’s final public appearance was during the grand opening of Horseshoe Las Vegas (formerly Bally’s) back in March where he was invited as one of the guests along with other major poker figures and business executives (pictured). The poker great passed away in May at the age of 89.
Greatest of All Time
With 10 World Series of Poker (WSOP) gold bracelets, a World Poker Tour (WPT) title, and more than $6 million in total live earnings to his name, Brunson is considered among the greatest poker players of all time.
Inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame in 1988, Brunson, known to his poker peers as “Texas Dolly”, will always be remembered for his massive contribution to the overall growth of the game and for helping plenty of players kick start their poker careers. Brunson’s vibrant personality also made him a well-loved poker figure.
Brunson’s poker career spanned more than six decades. He recorded his first live tournament cash in 1972, a 3rd-place finish in the $10K WSOP Main Event. And the rest is history.
Even in his twilight years, Brunson kept his passion for the game burning, competing in tournaments and some of the highest-stakes poker cash games, and proving that age is just a number. In 2022, he joined the WPT as brand ambassador and appeared at the record-breaking WPT World Championship held in December of that year.
