Phil HellmuthThe 2016 US Presidential Election race continues to heat up in the Republican Party as Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio and front runner Donald Trump continue to battle hard to see if they can secure the vote of their party and be the GOP nominee.

Real estate mogul, billionaire and reality TV star Donald Trump has stunned a lot of people by winning 6 states during Super Tuesday this week and could very well end up securing the party’s vote in the next couple of weeks.

Phil Hellmuth who is considered to be one of the best poker players of all time recently shared his views about the presidential election and his thoughts on Donald Trump. The 14 time WSOP gold bracelet winner believes that Trump has surprised everyone by using the ultimate loose aggressive poker (LAG) strategy.

In poker jargon, the term refers to a player whose modus operandi involves tackling his opponents with aggression. Taking the analogy one step further, Hellmuth claims that the same strategy used against a loose-aggressive player at a poker table can be employed in the elections campaign as well. Hellmuth believes that Trump has redefined this election race because of his tactics and resilience that has helped him win over a significant number of republicans. During the last couple of weeks, Trump has come under attack during the debates from Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz and has looked a little less confident than usual.

Hellmuth says the best way to tackle aggression is by maintaining patience, good discipline and knowing when to return the aggression. He is of the opinion that the other Republican candidates are in danger of ‘being harpooned’ if they do not employ proper strategies.

In a statement, Phil Hellmuth said

Like the highest-level poker, this election is being played on the emotional level. Many elections have come down to specific policies, party loyalty, how the economy was doing. This election, however, is about raw emotion. Rubio changed tactics, finally aggressively attacked Trump — and he looked pretty good doing it.

Some analysts have compared the GOP Republican race to a high stakes poker game due to the intensity of emotions involved. This could end up working in favor of Donald Trump who has a lot more experience of being exposed to the pressure and stress of building billion dollar businesses and bullying his opponents into defeat.
