partypoker Makes Changes To MILLIONS Live Tour For 2019

Last Updated on December 12, 2018 Author:Adrian Sterne

partypoker is introducing a number of changes to its MILLIONS product for 2019. Among the changes planned is eliminating re-entry events and replacing them with freezeouts.

The “Caribbean Poker Party” festival is also set to become a thing of the past, with partypoker eyeing a brand new experience in Rio De Janeiro.

The planned changes began when Dusk till Dawn owner Rob Yong gave his two cents on the MILLIONS UK tournament which took place two months ago. The partypoker-sponsored tournament was a huge disappointment, after it failed to meet expectations, with a significantly low turnout.

In his blog post Yong shared nostalgic memories from the original EPT format where players – a mixture of poker professionals and amateurs – were only given one shot to the coveted top prize. Yong expressed his dislike for re-entries which he said only benefit large-stake players and those who have “deep pockets”. Famous players usually register at the last minute and they can opt to re-enter multiple times even after being busted multiple times.

partypoker may have taken account of Yong’s comments, leading to a revamped MILLIONS. John Duthie, who leads partypoker LIVE, has already hinted at major changes coming into play next year.

Four MILLIONS Events in 2019

Four MILLIONS events will be held in 2019. The first one will be MILLIONS South America which will take place at the Copacabana Palace Hotel from March 16-24, 2019. Next up is MILLIONS North America which will be held from May 22-27 at PPC Montreal, followed by MILLIONS Europe at Casino Barcelona from August 10-18, 2019. The fourth one will be the MILLIONS World Bahamas which takes place from November 9-16, 2019.

Each tournament will feature a $10,300 buy-in Main Event with a guaranteed prize pool of $5 million. The MILLIONS World with a smaller buy-in of $10,300 will replace the Caribbean Poker Party and will become the new Grand Final, offering $10 million in guarantees. The tournament will still take place at the Baha Mar Resort in the Bahamas.

The MILLIONS Grand Final in Barcelona as well as the previous $25,000 buy-in MILLIONS World have both been dropped.

The MILLIONS events will adopt a $10,000 freezeout format, with lots of side events. partypoker hopes to bring back the good old days – no re-entries, no multiple starting days, the last surviving player will win the Main Event.
