Legal Kansas Online Poker Sites
Contrary to popular belief, the Sunflower State takes a less conservative approach to gambling. That said, while Kansans have plenty of legal gambling options at their disposal, the officials deal with unregulated activities in a fairly strict manner.
The state currently allows tribal and commercial casinos, a state lottery, pari-mutuel wagering on horse and dog racing, DFS, and, as of 2022, retail and online sports betting. However, online casinos and poker rooms are still out of reach for Kansans.

If you’re searching for online poker in Kansas, you’ll have limited options. However, that doesn’t mean you won’t be able to play online poker altogether — other ways still exist. Below, you can learn more about online poker and its current situation in the Sunflower State.
Is Online Poker Legal in Kansas?
Online gambling, including online poker, is still illegal in the sunflower State. Although Kansas lawmakers took a huge step forward by legalizing online and retail sports betting, they failed to include all other online gambling forms.
There have been no attempts to legalize online gambling. However, KS lawmakers have tried to outlaw online casinos and poker sites. In 1996, KS Attorney General asserted that online gambling violates the law, saying that:
Placing, receiving or forwarding a bet and participating in or conducting a lottery on the internet violates Kansas criminal gambling statutes. If a bet is placed or a lottery is engaged in from a computer located in Kansas any person or entity participating in such crime may be prosecuted in this state.
Fortunately, Kansans can still play poker in land-based venues. In 2007, lawmakers passed SB 66 (Kansas Expanded Lottery Act), allowing commercial casinos to be built. As a result, the state is now home to ten brick-and-mortar venues — six tribal and four commercial. Interestingly, all commercial casinos are run by the state lottery in partnership with outside companies.
In 2013, the state legislature addressed online poker in HB 2055, aiming to expand brick-and-mortar gambling and ban all internet gambling activities. Luckily, it was voted down 24–15.
Even though online poker remains unregulated in the Sunflower State, local players can still participate in tournaments and play cash games through offshore operators.
