The gambling industry receives a lot of flak from opposition groups due to the negative impact they have on society as a lot of gambling debt, criminal activities and gambling addictions are attributed to the casino industry and the players who help the industry flourish. On the other hand, the gambling industry has been one of the biggest contributors to charities and non-government organizations on a regular basis.
Casino establishments and gamblers have generally looked to give back to society by teaming up with some of the leading charities in the state, hosting charity events and becoming regular contributors.
This is one of the reasons why a number of state governments have had to think twice about cracking down on the gambling industry because stringent regulations reduce casino revenue and thereby automatically reduce the amount of funding those charities and non- government organizations receive.
A number of casinos and players have been in giving mode during this holiday season and one of those players is Bernard Lee. The professional poker player and media professional who comes from New England decided to team up with The Full House Charity Program to help donate holiday packages to children in the state of Massachusetts. Chili’s Grill and Bar Restaurants along with the Eastern Poker Tour were co-sponsors along with Lee.
The Full House Charity Program has donated a minimum of around $10,000 since 2010 to a number of charities across New England who wanted to help children in need to have something special for the holidays. This year Lee and the Full House Charity Program touched the lives of over 50 children in Massachusetts who received a number of goods. Lee brought his family along and gave out gift hampers to kids during the Christmas season.
In a statement,
I’m thrilled to bring the Full House Charity Program to a new location this year. My family and I were excited to meet new families and help them celebrate the holiday season. It gives me great joy to see the children smile when we hand them their packages. I’m so grateful my good fortune in the poker world allows me to give back to the community.
Some of the presents included in the special gift hamper included stuffed animals and toys, winter clothing, Sports Illustrated for Kids magazines, art supplies, board games, booking and sports balls.
