Summary

The World Series of Poker (WSOP) has officially entered the world of non-fungible tokens (NFTs).

Video clips of some of the biggest and most memorable moments in the history of the series will be auctioned as NFTs, in partnership with the Worldwide Asset eXchange (WAX).

The WSOP is initially releasing a collection of six of the festival’s most iconic moments, starting with a clip of Chris Moneymaker’s historic bluff against Sam Farha during the 2003 WSOP Main Event. Poker fans and collectors all over the world now get the opportunity to own the clips as NFTs, on Mondays and Wednesdays until December 6.

The Moneymaker NFT auction is ongoing and will end on Wednesday, with bids reaching 1,030 WAX, equivalent to around $780 as of this writing. Only one NFT is available for auction for each of the six iconic WSOP moments.

Here are the other five video clips and their auction schedule:

When the kid became a legend (Stu Ungar) – November 22; The Poker Brat (Phil Hellmuth) – November 24; You gonna call, it’s gonna be all over, baby (Scotty Nguyen) – November 29; Texas Dolly’s 10th bracelet (Doyle Brunson) – December 1); Orient Express, back to back (Johnny Chan) – December 6.

NFTs are unique digital assets that are non-interchangeable and cannot be replicated. They can include music, art, videos, images, collectibles, and even website domains and real estate that are traded online through blockchain technology.

When something is being sold as an NFT, it allows the buyer to claim ownership of the original item, much like owning an original painting by Picasso or Van Gogh. The seller can also make huge sums of money by auctioning their works as NFTs. For example, digital artist Beeple has become a multi-millionaire just by creating and selling NFTs. His latest NFT sold for $69 million, creating a new record.

This is why NFTs have become an online craze these days, with sales volumes rising to $10.7 billion for Q3 of 2021. WSOP is hoping to tap into this market, considering that many members of the poker community such as Phil Ivey are also interested in NFTs.

Summary WSOP teams up with Worldwide Asset eXchange Six of the most iconic moments in WSOP Main Event history to be auctioned WSOP NFTs are auctioned every Monday and Wednesday until December 6.
