"888poker:888poker‘s flagship low-stakes online poker festival, the ChampionChip series got a lot of publicity this month. The week-long sports-themed series featured buy-ins of as low as $2.20 primarily designed for players with smaller bankrolls.

While some tournaments on the schedule managed to surpass their guarantees by large margins, the festival fell short of hitting its overall goal, as the Main Event missed its target. The festival came with a huge $735,000 in total guaranteed prizes, with the Main Event posting a $500,000 guarantee.

The tournament attracted 9,060 in total entries to generate $453,000 in total prize pool, 9% short of its initial target.

Notably, the other individual tournaments exceeded expectations, awarding $261,499 in combined prizes to the top finishers, surpassing their guarantees by $25,999. This puts the festival’s total overlay at just $21,001. Let’s take a look at the final figures below:

Of the 24 events on the schedule, 12 managed to go past their guarantees, with the other half of the series falling short. The $5.50 buy-in, $7,500GTD High Jump event recorded the biggest overlay percentage of 57.32% when it attracted just 582 entries to create $3,201 in total prize pool.

With most of the guarantees locked up in the Main Event, the overall performance of the series essentially relied on the tournament’s results. Despite having a buy-in of just $50, the tournament failed to pull in enough players to reach its goal. In the end, it was $47,000 in the hole.

The most successful event throughout the series was the $33 buy-in, $30,000GTD Opening Ceremony, which attracted a 1,374-entry field to create $45,342 in total prize pool, exceeding its guarantee by a massive 51.14%. Other events recording positive results include the Boxing, Weightlifting, Surfing, and Mountain Biking tournaments, as well as the Mini Main Event.
