Each year, poker personalities are nominated in numerous categories, with the ultimate winners being presented with a commemorative trophy. The first two editions in 2019 and 2020 each awarded 25 trophies.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"2022-global-poker-awards\">2022 Global Poker Awards<\/h2>\n<p>The 2022 edition of the awards show will feature more than 20 categories, including the <em>GPI Player of the Year, GPI Female Player of the Year, Players\u2019 Choice Award for Hand of the Year, Players\u2019 Choice Award for Best All-Around Poker Player and Poker ICON<\/em>. <\/p>\n<p><strong>Global Poker Index &amp; The Hendon Mob<\/strong><\/p>\n<div style=\"position:relative;height:0;padding-bottom:56.25%\">\n<iframe src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/g-I9on-UY2A?rel=0&amp;showinfo=0?ecver=2\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" frameborder=\"0\" style=\"position:absolute;width:100%;height:100%;left:0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The GPA did not take place in March 2021 mainly because of the continuing threat of COVID-19. GPI President <strong>Eric Danis<\/strong> said a proper awards ceremony wouldn\u2019t be possible this year, considering that there was not much going on in live poker for over a year as a result of the pandemic. It would not have made sense to push through with the awards show, despite looser restrictions in Vegas, Danis said.<\/p>\n<p>Next year will be the best time to celebrate accomplishments, with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.top10pokersites.net\/news\/us-covid-vaccination-progress-boosts-prospects-for-2021-wsop-live-event\">live poker scene now slowly returning to normal and vaccination rollouts are in full swing<\/a> in some countries, including the US.  <\/p>\n<h2 id=\"top-gpa-winners\">Top GPA Winners<\/h2>\n<p>Poker couple <strong>Alex Foxen<\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.top10pokersites.net\/news\/kristen-bicknell-retains-title-of-female-global-poker-index-player-of-the-year\">Kristen Bicknell<\/a><\/strong> were named <em>GPI Player of the Year<\/em> and <em>GPI Female Player of the Year<\/em> for two consecutive years. Similarly, <strong>Lex Veldhuis<\/strong> also shipped back-to-back victory in the <em>Streamer of the Year<\/em> category.<\/p>\n<p>Last year, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/channel\/UCLNWyduFVhxjj0r1tPrE_-A\">Joey Ingram<\/a><\/strong> won the award for <em>Journalist of the Year<\/em> and <em>Content of the Year \u2013 Video<\/em>, while the PokerStars Players Championship (PSPC) was named <em>Event of the Year<\/em>. <em>Broadcaster of the Year<\/em> went to <strong>Nick Schulman<\/strong>, while <strong>Paul Phua<\/strong> of Triton Poker shipped the <em>Industry Person of the Year<\/em> award.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Robert Campbell<\/strong> was awarded the <em>GPI Breakout Player of the Year<\/em>, and <strong>Stephen Chidwick<\/strong> won the <em>Players Choice Award for Toughest Opponent<\/em>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There was no Global Poker Awards being held in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but it will make a return in March 2022, in partnership with PokerGO.
