"RobertThe World Series of Poker (WSOP) has now announced that Robert Campbell is the official winner of the 2019 Player of the Year (POY) race.

The WSOP apparently committed a clerical error that placed Daniel Negreanu at the top of the POY leaderboard. The error gave the Canadian poker pro his third POY win, after capturing the title twice, in 2004 and 2013.

The WSOP confirmed the error in a statement on Nov 8, saying they had wrongly listed the results for Event #68: $1,000 WSOP.com Online No-Limit Hold’em Championship, affecting places 32-46, and giving Negreanu some extra points. The Canadian player failed to finish in the money in the online bracelet tournament, but was awarded POY points.

After conducting a recalculation of the points, Campbell, who captured two WSOP bracelets this summer, officially came out on top, with Shaun Deeb following him at No. 2, and the previously announced winner Negreanu slipping down to No. 3.

A poster on online poker forum TwoPlusTwo noticed an error in the listing of points and started a thread investigating the alleged mistake. Alexander Elenskiy, a live poker reporter going by the name “iskander” on the forum, revealed that Negreanu was wrongly declared as the winner, if the correct results were to be considered. WSOP said they were aware of the error and was working on fixing things.
