{"id":3920,"date":"2019-11-06T12:04:59","date_gmt":"2019-11-06T12:04:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.top10pokersites.net\/news\/?p=3920"},"modified":"2019-11-06T12:04:59","modified_gmt":"2019-11-06T12:04:59","slug":"daniel-negreanu-wins-2019-world-series-of-poker-player-of-the-year-race","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.top10pokersites.net\/news\/daniel-negreanu-wins-2019-world-series-of-poker-player-of-the-year-race","title":{"rendered":"Daniel Negreanu Wins 2019 WSOP Player of the Year Race"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.top10pokersites.net\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2013\/01\/daniel-negreanu.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"302\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-41\"><strong>Daniel Negreanu<\/strong> successfully clinched his third World Series of Poker (WSOP) Player of the Year title as the final event of the 2019 WSOPE finally concluded at King\u2019s Resort in Rozvadov. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.top10pokersites.net\/news\/daniel-negreanu-takes-top-spot-on-latest-wsop-poy-rankings\">Negreanu was the frontrunner in the POY race<\/a> when the final day of the \u20ac550 buy-in Colossus event began. <\/p>\n<p>Defending POY winner <strong>Shaun Deeb<\/strong> needed to secure at least a 5th place finish in the event for a back-to-back POY victory. But unfortunately things went the other way around as the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.top10pokersites.net\/top-10-us-poker-sites\">American poker<\/a> pro fell short of the final table, ending his bid in 11th place. <\/p>\n<p><strong>Daniel Negreanu<\/strong><\/p>\n<div style=\"position:relative;height:0;padding-bottom:56.25%\">\n<iframe src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/kRAjNUR2YWk?rel=0&amp;showinfo=0?ecver=2\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" frameborder=\"0\" style=\"position:absolute;width:100%;height:100%;left:0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Negreanu, also known as \u201c<em>Kid Poker<\/em>\u201c, has now become the first winner in WSOP POY history to claim the title despite not winning a bracelet. The Canadian player won the inaugural POY back in 2004, and captured it again in 2013. <\/p>\n<p>His overall performance this year has been great, cashing in 24 times and collecting $2,213,605 in total winnings. He nearly added another bracelet to his impressive WSOP resume when he finished as runner-up in two events \u2014 the <em>$100,000 High Roller<\/em>, as well as the <em>$10,000 Stud Championship<\/em> during the 2019 WSOP in July at the Rio.<\/p>\n<p>Apart from Negreanu and Deeb, the other players who made it to the Top 10 of the POY leaderboard were <strong>Robert Campbell, Anthony Zinno, Philip Hui, Daniel Zack, Dario Sammartino, Chris Ferguson, Kahle Burns and Dash Dudley<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"concerns-over-poy-policy\">Concerns Over POY Policy<\/h2>\n<p>Since 2017, concerns have been raised over the guidelines and points policy adopted by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsop.com\/2019\/poy\/\">WSOP POY race<\/a>, which has appeared to favour quantity over quality. As a result, a lot of poker pros choose to enter multiple times into events that allow unlimited re-entries in order to collect cashes and in turn be rewarded with POY points. During the same year, Ferguson was able to win the title by cashing in 23 events, but his total winnings did not even reach the $500,000 mark. <\/p>\n<p>Even Negreanu wants to see the current POY rules modified. He managed to accumulate points through multiple cashes, without winning a single bracelet. In doing so, he was able to get past this year\u2019s bracelet winners, including Campbell, Burns, and Hui. <\/p>\n<p>Negreanu said the points awarded to players joining via re-entries in an event should be divided by how many times that player entered \u2014 for instance, if the player gets 320 points and he or she reentered thrice, 320 should be divided by 3, awarding that players just 80 points for that event.
