He will also feature on a banner along with former WSOP players of the year and Main Event winners which will be displayed at the <strong>Rio All-Suite Hotel &amp; Casino<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Ferguson will be joining an exclusive group of POY winners. If we look at the last three years, <strong>George Danzer<\/strong> who has 5 WSOP table appearances and 3 WSOP bracelets won the POY award in 2014, <strong>Mike Gorodinsky<\/strong> who has 3 WSOP table appearances and 1 WSOP bracelet won the POY award in 2015 and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.top10pokersites.net\/news\/vanessa-selbst-jason-merciers-prop-bet-turns-sour\">Jason Mercier<\/a> who has 4 WSOP table appearances and 2 WSOP bracelets won the POY award in 2016.<\/p>\n<p><strong>pokernewsdotcom<\/strong><\/p>\n<div style=\"position:relative;height:0;padding-bottom:56.25%\">\n<iframe src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/AQaDMZUHKQQ?rel=0&amp;showinfo=0?ecver=2\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" frameborder=\"0\" style=\"position:absolute;width:100%;height:100%;left:0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div>\n<p>Ferguson has had a good run this year with 17 cashes and two top-four finishes in $10,000 Championship events at the 2017 WSOP in Las Vegas. This strong showing allowed Ferguson to get into the the lead position in the race for Player of the Year. His outstanding performance also earned him an entry into the WSOPE \u20ac10,350 Main Event at <strong>King\u2019s Casino in Rozvadov, Czech Republic<\/strong>. Ferguson continued his lead in the POY race with 6 WSOPE cashes that also includes his sixth bracelet win in the WSOP Europe Event #7.<\/p>\n<p>At the start of the WSOPE Main Event on Saturday, Racener was in second place for the POY and was just 136 points behind Ferguson followed by <strong>Ryan Hughes<\/strong> in the third place with 184 points. Ferguson finally clinched the POY title with the elimination of Racener on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>Ferguson did not play any live poker tournaments from 2011 till early 2016 and kept a low profile due to the Black Friday fiasco. He made his first appearance at the 2016 WSOP and received a lot of flak from the poker community but that has faded in recent months. He finished in ninth position in the 2016 WSOP POY race which was eventually won by <strong>Jason Mercier<\/strong>. <\/p>\n<p>Ferguson\u2019s impressive 2017 POY win received positive reactions from most poker players but there were still some such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.top10pokersites.net\/reviews\/888-poker\">888poker<\/a> ambassador <strong>Parker Talbot<\/strong> who felt Ferguson\u2019s association with poker was not good for the game.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The World Series of Poker (WSOP) announced earlier this week via Twitter that Chris Ferguson is in the lead position to win the 2017 World Series of Poker Player of the Year after the elimination of John Racener from the final event of the year that had POY points attached to it.
