The World Poker Tour (WPT) introduced the Tournament of Champions event in 2016 and it has received a lot of attention during the last couple of years. Poker players from all over the world are eager to win this coveted title as it ensures they get a nice payout and also increase their brand value as a poker player.

The WPT recently announced that the 2018 edition of its Tournament of Champions will have a few changes. Since its debut in 2016, the Tournament of Champions has been held at the Seminole Hard Rock at Florida.

In 2018 though, WPT plans to bring the event to Las Vegas. The series is now set to run from May 17 to 26 and will be held at the Aria Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.

In a statement, Adam Pliska, CEO of the World Poker Tour said

The World Poker Tour is thrilled to bring the illustrious WPT Tournament of Champions to the luxurious Aria, as we close out a historic Season XVI. The WPT Tournament of Champions is our most prized event, and the winner will join Farid Yachou and Daniel Weinman as a WPT Tournament of Champions winner

The Tournament of Champion series will consist of several high stake events. The starting event will be $10,000 No-Limit Hold’em event which will be followed by four $25,000 high-roller events. These will culminate in a super high-roller event. The buy-in to this super higher roller event will be $100,000 and will take place from May 25 to 26.

Running alongside the series will be the Bobby Baldwin Classic. This is a new WPT event that is being introduced to honor poker pro Bobby Baldwin who won four WPT bracelets and the World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event in 1978. Baldwin accumulated over $2 million in career prize money which is not a lot considering what modern day poker players make but it was a huge sum in the 70s and 80s. The Bobby Baldwin Classic will run from May 20 to 23 and will have a buy-in of $10,000. This is also the final chance for anyone to get an automatic seat at the Tournament of Champions Main Event.

The highlight of the series is the Tournament of Champions Main Event. Current WPT winners automatically receive a seat to the tournament of champions and will battle it out in May to determine who is the champion of champions.
