Vanessa Selbst Announces Return to Live Felts As She Joins WSOP Thrill Team

Vanessa SelbstSummary:

  • Vanessa Selbst is now part of the WSOP Thrill Team along with six other well-known players
  • She retired from professional poker five years ago but admits she missed playing the game
  • Selbst will be back in action at the 2023 WSOP, competing in the Main Event

Vanessa Selbst has been out of the poker limelight for several years. She decided to quit professional poker in 2018 to follow a different career path and focus on building her own family.

That decision produced great results for the former poker pro who was recently inducted into the WiPHoF, as she is now a successful trader working on Wall Street, happily married with two kids.

But poker remains in Selbst’s heart and mind and that’s why joining the World Series of Poker (WSOP) Thrill Team was a no-brainer for her. She even considers it as an excuse to get back to the felts. Suffice it to say, the 39-year-old simply wants to play again, and becoming a member of the team will enable her to do just that.

Selbst Joins the WSOP Thrill Team

The WSOP Thrill Team was created to mark the 10th anniversary of the WSOP free-to-play app. Selbst, along with Patrik Antonius, Espen Jørstad, Ethan Yau, Adam Hendrix, Landon Tice and Samantha Abernathy, will be active on the app to give players from all over the globe the opportunity to compete against them.

As part of the celebrations, the poker app will also launch a host of exciting new features, with players also getting the chance to win gold bracelets and rings.

Selbst Will Play at 2023 WSOP

Apart from joining the WSOP Thrill Team, Selbst has another major poker endeavor this year as she will be competing in the 2023 WSOP Main Event and other tournaments in Las Vegas. Already a three-time WSOP bracelet winner, Selbst will attempt to win her fourth bracelet this summer.

She is managing her expectations though, considering that she has been away from the felts for a very long time. Her last WSOP Main Event stint was back in 2017 when she was eliminated in a sick cooler. After that disappointing finish, Selbst took part in four more live tournaments and cashed in all of them, including a 14th-place finish in the 2019 $3,500 WPT Borgata Poker Open Championship for $39,950.

Despite admitting that she won’t be the same player that she used to be, Selbst said her competitive spirit remains strong and alive and she just wants to win.
