PokerStars Drops Neymar Jr From Dream Team Collection
PokerStars, the biggest online poker website in the world has partnered with some of the biggest sportstars over the last 18 months and recently decided to launch its biggest marketing campaign by bringing together a Dream Team that featured the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar Jr., Ronlado and Ronaldo Nazário de Lima.
These three global superstars are immensely popular in their sport and have a worldwide fan following on social media. PokerStars has put together an exciting marketing campaign that will leverage the fan base of these superstars in an effort of promoting the PokerStars brand and attracting new players to the PokerStars website.
PokerStars was recently forced to make changes to its Dream Team collection due to gambling restrictions in the United Kingdom. The company was forced to drop Brazilian superstar Neymar Jr and bring in poker hall of famer Daniel Negreanu. The 23 year old Brazilian striker does not meet the required age for promoting gambling related activities in the United Kingdom.
Gambling establishments in the United Kingdom need to comply with the United Kingdom Gambling Commission (UKGC) website which states:
No one who is, or seems to be, under 25 years old may be featured gambling or playing a significant role.
Hence, Neymar Jr cannot be used to promote any of PokerStars online games or challenges in the U.K and the company has already informed its partners and affiliates to remove all images of Neymar Jr in its U.K promotions.
The Dream Team Collection marketing campaign is currently promoting a special opportunity where players can become millionaires overnight by winning PokerStars $1 million by playing an all-in shootout. Neymar Jr has a strong fan following in the United Kingdom and the campaign will be affected to a certain extent but Daniel Negreanu’s presence will help the campaign to continue its momentum.
The Brazilian captain and Barcelona striker has been out of action for the last few days as he is battling a minor illness. But this did not stop Neymar Jr from logging into the PokerStars website and trying his hand at online poker. The superstar made news over the weekend for coming up with a royal flush on the river card which is an extremely rare hand and has the probability of 1/2,598,960 of landing. Neymar Jr ended up winning €17,810 and bringing his total online poker revenue to around €100,000 proving that he can play on the football field as well as the green felt.
