PokerStars Could Face Possible Strike From Players

Last Updated on November 30, 2015 Author:Adrian Sterne

PokerstarsPokerStars, the biggest online poker website in the world announced earlier this month that it was making a number of changes to its policies, online software and rewards program in an effort to provide its players with an enhanced gaming experience.

Those changes were supposed to be rolled out from the 1st of Jan 2016 and since PokerStars announced what those changes would entail, it drew initial feedback from online poker players which wasn’t very optimistic as a number of elite and VIP poker players felt that they were being manipulated and expressed their disappointment.

PokerStars management asked players to be patient with the new changes and advised players that change was always hard to accept but the proposed changes were done in the overall interests of all players.

Online poker pro Dani Stern has been one of the players who has been the most vocal about his disapproval of these new changes. Stern posted a thread on the popular Two Plus Two Poker forum on the 27th of November entitled “Strike/Boycott of PokerStars December 1st-3rd” Over 1000 online poker players appear to share the same views with Stern and have also agreed to the boycott.

There are reports that similar threads have been posted on other poker forums including the Russian Gipsyteam forums and have also gained a lot of attention with over 130 players agreeing to strike within the first 24 hours of the post.

Stern’s thread from the Two Plus Two forum says

We are organizing a strike/boycott of PokerStars from December 1-3, starting at 12:01 a.m. EST. We ask everyone who values the game of poker at all, recreational or pro, to show their support. We especially ask those who put in high volume on Stars to do so. Please do not play a hand of poker on PokerStars for those 72 hours. It goes without saying that games are likely to be softer on those days, and we hope that you can resist the urge to play because of that. I truly believe that these changes will bring about devastating effects to the online poker community.

Some of the online poker players who have agreed to strike use the following screen names: Sam “Str8$$$Homey”; Elio “smokrockflock” Fox; Phil “MrSweets28” Galfond; Jack “jackziyang” Salter; Justin “ZeeJustin” Bonomo; Ben “Ben86” Tollerene and Mike “tîmex” McDonald.
