PokerStars Bringing ‘Seat Me’ System To EU Shared Liquidity Network

PokerStars is poised to become the first online operator to offer its shared virtual poker tables in Spain, France, Portugal and Italy once the player pools converge in the coming months.

The online poker giant also announced that they are bringing a unique seating system to the EU shared network to make things better and a lot more interesting.

PokerStars, the biggest online poker website in the world was the first and currently the only online poker operator to acquire a shared liquidity license from French gaming regulator Autorité de Régulation des Jeux En Ligne (ARJEL).

PokerStars is also the only operator that already has operations in all four European countries that are poised to join the shared liquidity program.

Since France and Spain are on the verge of merging their online poker player pools, PokerStars found it apt to roll out its successful table and seating system in both countries. PokerStars first came out with the Seat Me system in January 2017 and Spain was the first country to test and see the impacts of the system. Unlike most online poker rooms where players are able to choose their tables and seats freely, the Seat Me system follows live poker room regulations and assigns a random seat to the user.

One of the biggest promises of the Seat Me system was to eliminate the controversial use of seat scripts. Data mining and bumhunting have become widespread in online poker rooms, tilting the playing environment against newbies and recreational players. Seat scripts allow regular poker players to “bumhunt” weaker players, which is a cheap trick where more experienced poker players would follow less experienced ones to their tables and then secure a seat to their left. Being seated at the left of a weaker player allows the more experienced player to skip playing the other regulars three-handed.

Because of this, many new poker players became reluctant to keep playing in online poker rooms. The use of scripts in online poker rooms created an unfair and unhealthy environment which is why PokerStars spent 2017 to fine-tune the Seat Me system and create a fair gaming environment and one that was friendlier.

In a statement, Severin Rasset, PokerStars Director of Innovation and Poker Operations said

Today, we have achieved most of our initial goals with Seat Me; greatly reducing players’ ability to hunt specific opponents, completely preventing the use of seating scripts, and creating an environment where recreational players play more hands.
