Summary:

  • Jose Ignacio “Nacho” Barbero flopped his first-ever Royal Flush in the $25K Dealers Choice Championship.
  • The Argentinian eliminated Aaron Kupin with just 12 players left and followed up by knocking out Mike Watson.
  • The poker pro is one of the country’s all-time money leaders.

Jose Ignacio “Nacho” Barbero managed to pull off a truly unforgettable moment at the 2024 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Paradise in Event #5: $25,000 Dealers Choice Championship

Despite his impressively long career and the $21.5 million that he gathered in lifetime earnings since 2005, Barbero flopped his first-ever Royal Flush in a pivotal hand with just 12 players left in the tournament.

The Iconic No-Limit Hold’em Round

The milestone occurred in Level 14 during a no-limit hold’em round. Only seven of the 12 remaining players would cash in, which means the action was heating up fast.

When it folded to Aaron Kupin in the small blind, he moved all in for 88,000. Barbero, in the big blind, immediately called with A♣ K♣, putting him in a dominant position against Kupin’s K♦ 6♥.

The dealer revealed the flop with a flourish: Q♣ J♣ 10♣. Barbero flopped the unbeatable Royal Flush. The runout of 4♦ 10♦ was a simple formality, sending Kupin out of the tournament in jaw-dropping fashion.

After venting about his luck earlier in the hour, Barbero’s tablemates wasted no time pointing out his sudden fortune.

Barbero, grinning, acknowledged it was his first-ever flopped Royal Flush, and he quickly grabbed his phone to document the moment.

It Didn’t End There

Barbero’s run didn’t stop there. Shortly after, Mike Watson shoved for 150,000 from the small blind with 8♣ 7♣

The 42-year-old Argentinian called with A♥ 9♠. The board came 9♥ K♠ 6♠ J♠ 6♦, giving Barbero the winning hand and another knockout.

The double elimination helped Barbero climb to a healthier stack just as the money bubble loomed.

Barbero, a seasoned poker pro, is no stranger to success. He clinched his first bracelet in 2022 by winning WSOP Event #67: $10,000 Super Turbo Bounty NLH Freezeout for $587,520.

His reputation as one of Argentina’s top poker players is well-earned, and he leads his country’s all-time money list.

The timing of his achievement was fitting, given that fellow Argentinian pro Alejandro Lococo had recently secured a massive victory in Event #2: $1,000,000 Triton Million, claiming $12,070,000 and his first bracelet.

Barbero’s remarkable flopped Royal Flush adds yet another chapter to his decorated career, and with his undeniable skill and renewed momentum, he is still a serious threat deep into any tournament.
