PTPPA Fails To Raise Support or Funds From Poker Players In America
The Poker Players Alliance (PPA) has failed to raise the $25,000 quota that it sought to stay open in the midst of financial difficulties. Many gaming analysts believe this marks the death of the poker advocacy organization.
In February, after Executive Director John Pappas resigned, the PPA posted on its website a message directly asking its members for donations and contributions to keep it afloat. The PPA claimed that its finances had taken a beating and the organization would need to raise at least $25,000 to stay open. The PPA called on poker players to chip in and help the PPA stay open.
New PPA President Rich Muny earlier emphasized that the PPA was forced to change its strategy and employ a more cost-effective ‘grassroots’ strategy to keep fighting for the legalization of poker throughout the country. The PPA also stated that to maximize their operating funds, they are relying on unpaid volunteers to go out and update players about the state of online poker legislations throughout US and connect them with their local officials.
The $25,000 would have made a big difference to the PPA and help them continue their fight to make online poker legal in America.
Poker Community Not Willing To Help The PPA
Considering the image that the PPA has created of itself, one would have imagined that poker players across the country would be more than willing to help. The PPA has maintained that it has fought tooth and nail to get online poker legalized and allow poker players to play their favourite game from the comfort of their homes.
It appears that poker pros in America do not view the PPA this way as they have spoken clearly by not coming forward and donating to help keep the PPA afloat. The PPA confirmed that it has raised $6,015 as of April 1.
Many believe that the inability of PPA to raise $25,000 speaks volumes of how the organization have failed to keep in touch with its community. High stakes poker pros consistently bet $25,000 or more on high stakes poker games and it would have been very easy for them to donate and help the PPA get to its target of $25,000.
The PPA has so far helped get online poker legalized in four states in the last seven years and poker pros don’t find that impressive. This is one of the reasons why they have no donated as they don’t believe the PPA is making much of an impact.
