American poker pro Doyle Brunson has been hustling on the poker circuit for more than 60 years. His accomplishments including winning 2 World Series Of Poker (WSOP) Main Events, 10 WSOP gold bracelets, the first player to win $1 million in career prize money and a member of the prestigious Poker Hall of Fame (PHoF).

The legendary poker pro was spotted at the 2018 WSOP and told reporters that this will be his final appearance at the WSOP.

It’s been a while since Brunson has been spotted at the World Series of Poker (WSOP) as his last recorded cashout was back in 2009. Brunson is now 84 years old says that age has made it pretty difficult for him to put in long hours at the poker tables and that’s one of the reasons why he will call it a day after the 2018 WSOP. He will most likely play smaller events where he does not have to put in long hours.

Brunson turned up this week at the Rio All-Suite to play the $10K NL 2-7 Lowball Draw Championship event. He tweeted before showing up at the Rio and many fans and players camped at the event to get a glimpse of the poker legend.

Brunson said that his son Todd Brunson was the reason why he was competing at the Rio. Todd texted him that it might be the only chance he gets to play at this year’s WSOP. Since deuce to seven has always been one of his favorite games, he took the opportunity and showed up.

After late registering on Day 2, Brunson is now in the money and has made it through to the final table. As of this writing, Day 3 has just commenced and the poker community is waiting to see how it all plays out for the Hall of Famer. This will be his final opportunity to add to his WSOP gold bracelet collection.

However, Brunson is clear that no matter what the results turn out to be, this will be his last appearance at the WSOP. He plans to retire from playing poker once the summer is over and spend more time with his wife who isn’t in the best of health.

In a statement, Brunson said,

I’ve always had great endurance, which is a blessing, but I feel guilty if I leave the house with my wife in poor health. I feel like I should be there with her, so I think I plan on retiring after this summer and spending all my time with her

Doyle Brunson’s legacy on the felt will be carried on by his son Todd who has already accumulated $4.3 million in career prize money.
