Philippines’ Florencio Campomanes Wins First Platinum Pass In 2020

Florencio CampomanesThe first Platinum Pass has been given away this year and it went to Filipino poker player Florencio Campomanes.

He was able to win the coveted pass at the ongoing PokerStars Red Dragon Manila taking place at Okada Manila.

Campomanes was playing in the Red Dragon Main Event and was among a set of players at Table Seven which was randomly picked to play for the highly-coveted Platinum Pass. All players from that table were transferred to the feature table for everyone to see who would ultimately take home the pass.

Campomanes almost lost that opportunity as he wasn’t at the table when players were gearing up for the much-awaited battle. Luckily, he was able to arrive just in time for the start of the action.

When the dealer flopped JsAd7c, John Dela Cruz dominated with a pair of aces. With Qh on the turn, Dela Cruz maintained his lead, as Campomanes got a pair of queens. When players revealed their second hole card, luck turned to Campomanes as he now held two pair with aces and queens. It was a thrilling wait for the river and when the board showed 9c, it was clear who the winner was.

Describing himself as a “luckbox“, Campomanes said it’s the first time he has ever won a raffle in his life. Campomanes revealed he tried so hard to win a Platinum Pass in 2018, even if it took him a total of 12 attempts in one of the events that offered the ticket, but he failed.

And now, the goal of playing in one of the biggest poker tournaments in the world has finally come to fruition and Campomanes will be spending little to nothing as the pass already includes the $25,000 buy-in to PSPC 2020, alongside €1,250 to cover other expenses.

Apart from that, Campomanes also gets to enjoy six nights’ accommodation in a five star Barcelona hotel, with bespoke PSPC merchandise as well as other great experiences.

Campomanes has had a great start in 2020. Earlier, he finished runner-up in the first-ever Red Dragon Super High Roller for ₱3,599,000. He also won the 2019 APPT Manila Main Event, taking home a whopping ₱11,092,500 – the largest live tournament score of his career.
