New JerseyNew Jersey’s land based casino industry in Atlantic City has taken a major financial hit due to the COVID-19 shutdown. The shutdown forced thousands of gamblers from the garden state to take their business online.

iGaming operators in New Jersey have benefitted from the lockdown as they have witnessed a spike in traffic and gaming revenues.

Online poker has also benefitted significantly as iPoker operators in New Jersey have reported record numbers in recent months.

A number of Atlantic City casinos opened their doors to the public in July but with significant restrictions. Poker rooms in these casinos were not opened and as a result, poker players continue to play online which reflected in July’s online poker numbers.
Reports show that iPoker operators in New Jersey brought in a combined $4.8 million in revenue during July 2020 compared to $1.8 million in July 2019. The World Series of Poker (WSOP) dominated the iPoker scene in New Jersey by holding its prestigious WSOP Online Bracelet Series.

The popular WSOP usually takes place every summer at the Rio Convention Center in Las Vegas. The WSOP was forced to cancel the WSOP due to Nevada’s casinos being closed. They decided to take the WSOP online and it turned out to be a great move for both the WSOP and New Jersey which has a much bigger poker market than Nevada.

The WSOP took the top spot in July by bringing in more than half of the total gross gaming poker revenues. The WSOP took home $2.8 million as NJ players flocked to take part in the online bracelet series. A number of poker players from out of state also travelled to New Jersey to play the Online Bracelet series.

PokerStars Brings In Over $1 Million In July

PokerStars NJ also enjoyed success and took home over $1.1 million in July. partypoker fell short of the million dollar mark and could only bring in $845,000 in July. Even though partypoker could only bring in $845,000, it was nearly double the amount that the online poker site registered in July 2019. These numbers for partypoker include the BetMGM and BorgataPoker skins.

New Jersey poker operators will be confident of having another good month in August as both the WSOP and PokerStars have some exciting online poker tournaments in the works.
