Nevada and Delaware Join Forces To Launch Online Poker Network

Online poker in the United States is currently legal in only three states Nevada, New Jersey and Delaware. Online gambling companies in these states have found it extremely difficult to build a strong player database due to the stringent regulations and limited player database to work with.

Nevada and Delaware decided in Feb 2014 that it would be in the best interests of both states if they combined forces and launched a multi-state poker network in order to increase their player database, provide more competition to online poker players and guarantee higher payouts. The governors from both states agreed to collaborate and share poker tournaments and tables.

Since then both states have been working tirelessly to build a seamless platform to launch their multi-state poker network. 888 Holdings, based out of Gibraltar has been working on the online platform and recently confirmed that the platform was ready to go live.

The platform was launched last week and Delaware reported a total of 313 cash game players in the first day. Those numbers are expected to grow as players start logging in and playing on the multi-state poker network. Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval was happy to see the multi-state poker network go live. In a statement, Sandoval said both Nevada and Delaware were

leading by example to provide a legal, tightly regulated online poker market that protects consumers in both our states.

The online poker industry in Delaware has fallen well below expectations and online poker revenues in Jan were only $27,695. Nevada has also experienced a market slump and currently has just two online poker websites in operation. The WSOP.com which is run by Caesars Interactive Entertainment and Real Gaming which is not a part of the multi-state poker network as it does not use the 888 Poker software.

Delaware Governor Jack Markel was pleased with the collaboration and stated that the new multi-state poker network will bring more competition and enjoyment to online poker players from Nevada and Delaware and help strengthen each state’s online poker industry. Players in Nevada and Delaware who are over 21 years can access the multi-state poker network via WSOP.com or Delaware’s Park websites, Harrington Raceway and Dover Downs.

New Jersey is currently not a part of the multi-state poker network but is also looking to collaborate with Delaware and join forces. The online poker market in New Jersey has significantly declined and New Jersey state officials are looking for a new strategy to revive the state’s online poker market.
