MGM Springfield Makes An Impact On Poker In New England

Last Updated on August 31, 2018 Author:Adrian Sterne

MGM SpringfieldMassachusetts’ second commercial casino opened its doors to the public on August 24 and within a week’s time has already made a significant impact on the poker scene in New England USA.

MGM Springfield which was developed at a cost of $960 million features the state’s first casino poker room which features 23 tables.

MGM Springfield’s website says that their poker room offers the “ultimate poker experience” in an environment that players have never experienced before. The room appears to be delivering on that bold claim according to several players who have visited and had a game.

Everything about the MGM Springfield’s new poker room screams out luxury. Every seat, which is modeled after seats that are found in Roll Royce cars, comes equipped with a docking station for a mobile phone. This appears to be a bit of a nod toward the luxury car maker that opened a plant in Springfield back in 1921. The room also boasts 16 big-screen televisions and players can have complimentary beverages delivered to their seats. The poker room is open 24 hours per day and alcoholic drinks are served until 4 AM.

While the poker action at the MGM Springfield mainly centers around no-limit hold’em, the poker room offers Omaha and 7-card stud too. The new poker tables are covered with bright red felt and can seat 10 players. While the tables don’t have the traditional cup holders, slide-under cup holders are available upon request.

The Buy-ins

Players can buy-in for anywhere between $100 and $500 if they want to play at a $1/$2 table and between $300 and $1,000 to get into a $2/$5 game. It should be noted that cash is not allowed to be used but players may purchase chips from chip runners or the dealers. Players are also allowed to straddle bet regardless of their table position.

Before players go to the poker room, they can go online and check the Bravo Poker Live system to see what action is currently available. The smoke-free room has two designated outside smoking areas including one directly outside the poker room and all of the dealers are well-trained professionals that meet MGM’s strict requirements.

No Need To Head Over To Connecticut

Aside from small poker rooms that were used for charity games, poker players in Massachusetts would frequently play at Foxwoods Resort Casino or Mohegan Sun which are located across the border in Connecticut. Now poker players in Massachusetts can save themselves an out of state trip by heading over to MGM Springfield.
