malta poker festivalPoker operators all over the world have been encouraged in recent times to pay more attention to women in poker.

It is common knowledge that men make up the majority of the playing field and both land based and online poker rooms have concentrated on the male demographic for a number of years.

The organizers behind the Malta Poker Festival (MPF) are placing special emphasis on women in poker by putting together a special Ladies Event that will be held during the MPF which is scheduled to take place from Nov 1 to Nov 6 at the Portomaso Casino.

MPF will be hosting a special Ladies Event with a buy-in of €100 in order to encourage female poker players to show up to the festival and enjoy this special event which is sponsored by Unibet.

There has been a great response to this Ladies Event so far and some of the female players who have confirmed their participation include entrepreneur and local ambassador Christina Ellul Vincent, Daiva Byrne who is an ambassador for Unibet poker and Fiona Sand who founded Let’s Go Poker.

The tournament director for the MPF is Ivonne Montealegre who is very keen on getting more women to play poker and believes that Ladies Only events will encourage more female poker players to show up to open events.

In a statement, Montealegre said

Poker has certainly flatlined, and ladies events are gaining a lot of strength. One of my personal goals is to include as many ladies into the industry and the game and share the passion for the game we love. I personally want to travel more with poker and ladies just make it so much fun!

Special Prizes At Ladies Event

Apart from the prize money on offer, there are also special prizes available at the Ladies Event which includes a special package to Unibet Dublin and a designer scarf for the top 10 ladies at the table.

The Unibet Dublin Open will also have a special QueenRules Ladies Event and female poker pros at MPF have a chance to win a special package that offers them a free seat to this event, €250 as travel expenses, 2 nights hotel accommodation and a special invite to the player’s party at Unibet Dublin.

The designer scarf is from local designer and top fashion designer Claudia Gescher who has created an exclusive design for these 10 scarfs.
