Joe SebokWe start the week with a rather unusual poker related story revolving around a court case that has just reached its conclusion in Los Angeles. The case revolves around an attempt to extort a huge amount of cash out of a very well known poker player that being Joe Sebok, and also several other well known players from the poker world.

Two men from the California area have just been sentenced for hacking into the private email account of Sebok and others and using the information gained from these emails which it has been said included naked photographs, to extort a huge amount of cash from these players.

One of the men found guilty of this offence was a Mr Tyler Chrier who is 23 years old, and for his part in the crime he received a 3 and a half year prison sentient, another person involved in the extortion attempt was a Mr Keith Hudson who is 39, he was sentenced to 2 years in federal prison.

It was admitted in court that Hudson hacked into one of the poker players private email accounts and then in alliance with Schrier then attempted to extort money from the players by using the pictures and the contents of several private emails.

The extortion took place back in the latter part of 2012 and several of the poker players who had their email account hacked turned over to the pair several hundreds of thousands of dollars to keep the correspondence private and to get the photos returned.

Joe Sebok one of those victims of the pair claimed he had lost a fortune through being unable to work in the industry due to the loss of reputation once the photos were discovered and leaked.

The names of the other victims of the extortion attempt were kept a secret from the public and they were only identified by initials in court correspondence and proceedings.

This we guess is a lesson to us all in regards to being extremely careful about how we handle our email log in security details, and it goes to say that people should ensure that both their inbox and sent messages folders are regularly purged and emptied as one never can tell who is going to be able to gain access to your email accounts, and the results of someone doing this can be devastating, so take note and change your email account passwords regularly.
