GPI Releases Nominations For Inaugural Poker Awards Event
The Global Poker Index (GPI) had announced earlier this month that it had decided to merge its European Poker Awards and American Poker Awards and come out with just one award ceremony known as the Global Poker Awards.
The inaugural Global Poker Awards ceremony is set to take place on April 5 and will feature as many as 20 different award categories.
The event will be streamed by PokerGo and will be sponsored by PokerStars. The awards will recognize the top performers and contributors in the world of poker from around the world.
Mediarex Entertainment and Sports, the parent company behind the GPI as well as the Global Poker League is once again looking to boost the popularity of poker with this inaugural Global Poker Awards ceremony. As many as 130 members from different parts of the world sent in their votes to finalize the nominees for the first ever Global Poker Awards.
20 Different Categories
Some of the categories are very popular and include breakout player of the year, streamer of the year, best podcast of the year, best tournament director, best tournament performance and best event of the year.
There are also a number of interesting categories that will be recognized and awarded on April 5. These include the best vlogger of the year, poker journalist of the year, best mid-major poker circuit/tour, best moment of the year, Award for Lifetime Achievement in Poker and People’s Choice Award which will be for the Poker Personality of the Year.
Nominees That Made The Shortlist

Bonomo is up for the moment of the year award which includes nominees like Doyle Brunson and Joe Cada. He is also nominated for the best tournament performance and will battle it out with the likes of John Cynn and Maria Lampropulos.
The event of the year category will be interesting as the four events nominated include the WSOP Main Event, partypoker Caribbean Poker Party Main Event, WPT Five Diamond World Poker Classic and the Super High Roller Bowl IV.
The top podcasts that made the cut include The Fives a PocketFives.com with Lance Bradley and Donnie Peters; LFG Podcast with Chad Holloway and Jamie Kerstetter; The Chip Race Poker Podcast with David Lappin and Dara O’Kearney; PokerCentral Podcast with Brent Hanks and Remko Rinkema; and the PokerNews Podcast with Sarah Herring and Jeff Platt.
