‘Duchess Of Poker’ Annie Duke Teaching People How To Save For Retirement

The recent crop of players who ventured into the poker industry may not have heard of Annie Duke as she stopped playing professional poker from 2012.

However those who have been in the industry for over a decade will be very familiar with Annie ‘The Duchess of Poker’ Duke as her accomplishments both on and off the felt have done a lot encourage female poker players.

Duke decided to walk away from professional poker after 2012 and has engaged in a number of business ventures.

Some have worked out well for the retired poker pro while something have not had the desired result. One thing that she has had a lot of success with is her writing.

Duke has released a number of poker books during the last few years including The Middle Zone, Decide to Play Great Poker and her latest book Thinking in Bets: Making Smarter Decisions When You Don’t Have All the Facts.

In her latest book, one of the things Duke looks at doing is educating her readers on how to save for retirement. The 52 year old Duchess of Poker who lives in Los Angeles encouragers her readers to follow delayed gratification because spending lavishly in the present can hurt you in the long run and leave your retirement plans in a mess.

In a statement, Duke said

We go around and we change our decision making because we’ve evaluated the quality of a decision based on one outcome. Try and cordon yourself off from the outcome and recognize the uncertainty of the future.

Duke Putting Her Poker Experience To Good Use

Duke is one of the few female poker pros to have won a WSOP gold bracelet and at one point of time leading the Hendon Mob’s all-time money list for female poker pros with over $4 million in career prize money. She no longer holds that record but she has taken her experience and accomplishments in the poker world and put it to good use.

Apart from her writing, Duke works as a consultant and public speaker helping people to make sound decisions. She uses a lot of poker strategy and lessons to illustrate how people can have a better life by learning that their happiness is not really based on luck but on making quality decisions.
