BetFred insist their ATM’s are staying!
You may have your own thoughts about having access to an ATM inside a betting shop however some of the major operators of such places in the UK have deemed that it would be irresponsible for them to put bank cash dispensers in their betting shop premises, and have decided to keep them away from such places.
However one very large independent betting shop operator, that being BetFred has come out fighting in response to critics of their many ATM’s which are sited slap bang in the middle of their betting shops, and through a spokesman of the company it was announced that they will be keeping their ATM’s, of which they have many as customers find them convenient, and in the companies mind they do not breed irresponsible gambling.
However other large betting shop operators have claimed that as part of their respective responsible gambling policies enforced in all of their betting shop premises they will not be having any ATM’s sited in them, unless in rare circumstances their happens to be one attached to the building.
However for reasons best known to BetFred, their response to these other betting shop operators stating that it is irresponsible for companies to put these ATM’s in their shop premises was, that it is also irresponsible for those other companies to allow debit card transactions to be processed on their premises and therefore can allow punters to top up the credit meters on the fixed odds betting terminals!
We are not sure if it is silly season in the land based betting shop industry or possible this madness is caused by the sudden heat wave in the UK, but questions do need asking when large betting shop operators are openly debating opposing views on what does and what doesn’t make a betting shop operator into a irresponsible gambling site operator.
It is probably best for anyone visiting a betting shop to leave their debit cards at home, as when push comes to shove having an ATM in any gambling premises they are going to be too much of a temptation for some punters who will then withdraw their cash and over spend!
