2022 Global Poker Awards Voting Now Open With 29 Awards to be Handed Out

The Global Poker Index (GPI) and The Hendon Mob have released the categories for the 2022 Global Poker Awards. A total of 29 awards will be distributed, with the winners to be honored at an awards ceremony on March 3, 2023, at the PokerGO Studio at Aria Las Vegas.

Three of the awards already have owners, two of which belong to Stephen Song who was announced as the 2022 GPI Player of the Year and GPI Mid-Major Player of the Year. The other award went to Cherish Andrews who won the GPI Female Player of the Year title.

2022 Global Poker Awards Key Categories

Apart from the categories already won by Song and Andrews, the other top categories for the 2022 Global Poker Awards include the GPI Breakout Player, Best Final Table Performance, Best Twitter Personality, and Players’ Choice for Toughest Opponent. These categories were respectively won in 2021 by Johan Guilbert, Adam Friedman, Jamie Kerstetter and Ali Imsirovic.

New categories have also been added for the 2022 Global Poker Awards, such as the Rising Star in Content Creation, Comeback Player and Fans Choice: Fave Live Stream.

In addition to poker players, the annual Global Poker Awards also celebrates the achievements of media personalities and individuals serving the industry. Categories dedicated to them include the Best Industry Person, Best Broadcaster and Best Tournament Director.

Voting Now Open To The Public

The selection panel will probably have a hard time picking the winners as the potential candidates for some of the key award categories have equal chances of winning based on their performances in 2022.

This makes it hard to predict the winners, unlike in 2021 where Ali Imsirovic just ruled the entire season with 14 high roller victories. It came as no surprise that he won three trophies, including the GPI Player of the Year.

But for 2022, the Bosnian-American poker pro is unlikely to make the cut given the cheating allegations against him which led to him being temporarily banned from entering PokerGO events.

The first round of voting for the 4th Global Poker Awards took place on January 23, with the selection panel comprised of poker players, media personalities, and poker industry figures.

Fans also have the chance to have their favorite poker personalities included in the nominees’ list, via the Fans Choice Awards which cover four categories. The final round of voting begins on February 2 after which the winners will be announced.
