2018 Super High Roller Bowl Live Lottery Takes Place Quietly

The Super High Roller Bowl (SHRB) is one of the premier high stakes poker events in the world and has received a lot of media attention in recent times.

The SHRB was expected to take place in May 2019 but Poker Central gave high stakes pro a lot to cheer about as an announcement was made in October that SHRB would take place in December 2018.

This was great news for high rollers who had the opportunity to play the SHRB and finish the year with a huge payout. The SHRB has a $300,000 buy-in and a player cap of 48 as we witnessed in the last event which took place in May 2018. The SHRB usually gets over-subscribed and tournament organizers use a lottery format to pick the majority of players that will be accepted.

The SHRB lottery for the December edition was scheduled to take place on November 27 but that did not happen and no reason for the delay was provided by Poker Central. It has now come to light that the lottery for the SHRB has taken place earlier this week and that comes as a surprise as no media coverage took place to promote the event.

The surprising thing about the SHRB lottery was that not only was the media caught off-guard but a number of players who were interested in the event also had no clue that the lottery had taken place. The player that broke the news to the media was Steffen Sontheimer who announced via Twitter that the lottery did take place on Dec 4. Poker Central has not provided any explanation as to why they did not break the news to the media or to the players in advance.

Lottery Sees 34 Players Selected

The lottery usually picks 25 players for the SHRB but this time around as many as 34 players were selected in the lottery draft. Among those who made it to the list are all-time money list number one Justin Bonomo, poker legend Daniel Negreanu, Germany’s pride Fedor Holz and 15-time World Series of Poker (WSOP) champ Phil Hellmuth.

Chris Kruk, Alex Foxen and Ben Yu are also in the mix, along with the 2018 US Poker Open Champion Stephen Chidwick and this year’s Poker Master Ali Imsirovic.

PokerGO will bring the latest updates on SHRB V which is set to take place on December 17 – 19 at the ARIA Resort and Casino in Las Vegas.
