  • The tournament is expected to have a $900,000 overlay
  • WPT Global happy to absorb overlay as part of its marketing promotion

The World Poker Tour (WPT) is one of the most respected poker brands in the world and its subsidiary WPT Global is looking to capitalise on the brand and establish itself as one of the top online poker sites in the world.

WPT Global launched the first edition of ‘The Summer Festival’ as part of a new MTT series. The Summer Festival started on July 20 and is set to run till August 22 featuring a number of exciting events with buy-ins that will appeal to players with small bankrolls.

The Summer Festival has had a decent response based on the some of the events that have already completed which includes the $220 Sunday Saver Turbo which had a $30,000 guarantee; the $110 Progressive Bounties Turbo which had a $15,000 guarantee and the $75 Monday PLO Mayhem which had a $10,000 guarantee.

$1 For $1 Million – Massive Overlays Expected

The most popular event on The Summer Schedule was expected to be the $1 For $1 Million event. The buy-in is fixed at just $1 and the total guaranteed prize pool is $1 million. WPT Global knew when they put the $1 For $1 Million event together that they were likely to end up with massive overlays but they were willing to absorb the overlay as it was part of their marketing campaign to promote the new WPT Global brand.

Based on the response as of this writing, the $1 For $1 Million tournament is expected to end up having close to $950,000 to $900,000 in overlays even with some last minute registration. WPT Global has decided to extend the number of starting flights in order to get more new poker players to register.

The registration for the $1 For $1 Million event started on July 20 with Day 1 starting flights taking place twice per week on Wednesday and Sunday. Each starting flight is limited to 5,000 entries and players have just one more week left to buy-in to this event with 3 flights on August 12, 2 flights on August 14 and 17 and 1 flight on August 21.
